Pascal Wehrlein could be back in DTM this season after losing out on a Formula 1 race-seat.
Dropped by Sauber at the end of the 2017 season when the team opted instead to signing Ferrari protégé Charles Leclerc, Wehrlein had hoped to land the only remaining seat at Williams.
That, though, went to rookie driver Sergey Sirotkin leaving the German out in the cold.
And while Mercedes have stated that they will retain Wehrlein as part of their programme, it looks as if – at least when it comes to racing in 2018 – it will be outside Formula 1.
The 23-year-old has been linked to return to DTM with Mercedes with F1i.com reporting that he could replace Maro Engel, who is withdrawing from the series to focus on Formula E.
Wehrlein won the DTM championship in 2015 with Mercedes before entering Formula 1 with Manor.
