Head of the FIA's F1 technical department Marcin Budkowski has resigned with immediate effect and has been placed on gardening leave for three months.
Budkowski joined the FIA in November 2014 having previously worked for the likes of Ferrari and McLaren in several aerodynamic roles.
He worked his way through the ranks at the FIA and was viewed as a highly-regarded member of the FIA who would possibly go on to replace race director Charlie Whiting.
But Budkowski has now left the governing body and it is unclear why at this stage that he has opted to resign from his role.
