After months of speculation, Sauber announced on Tuesday that Antonio Giovinazzi would partner Kimi Raikkonen at the Alfa Romeo-backed team.

Ericsson, though, wasn’t left completely out in the cold.

The Swede, who joined Sauber in 2014, will remain with the team as their third driver while also taking on an ambassadorial role.

Ericsson took to social media after the announcement, promising to not only give his all in his final races with Sauber but also revealing he’ll be looking outside F1 for racing opportunities.

“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in these last years in F1,” he said.

“I’ve always given my 100%, putting my heart and soul into it.

“I will continue in the same spirit, aiming to finish the season on a high!

“And I’m happy to continue working with Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 team next year in a new role.

“I’m also excited about exploring other racing options.

“Today is not the end of the story, it’s just the start of a new chapter.

“Thanks for all your support.”
